Rough Times in Hollywood

For almost a decade now there has been a stretch of road on Hollywood Blvd. just west of La Brea that has been so rough that cars have to slow down to naviagate through it. The affected area is right in front of the Hollywood Mosaic Temple at 7107 W. Hollywood Blvd. This is a busy intersection as people come onto La Brea south from Franklin and then turn West on Hollywood Blvd. Right there, in front of the church, there’s rough and broken pavement, indentations, crocodile cracking and even small sinkholes . I’ve driven it daily for almost a decade and — because other complaints about rough roads (as opposed to small potholes) always fell on deaf ears, I never complained about it.

LA Potholes: Rough Times in Hollywood

The horrible rains we had this winter made this street almost undrivable, and I coukld no longer take it. So on March 1 I filed a service rerquest with BSS. This is what I got back:

LA Potholes: Rough Times in Hollywood

This was laughable. On March 8 I drove over that stretch of road and nothing had been done — my car lurched back and forth like a ship in a storm.  By March 16, the BSS filled some of the holes with asphalt but the road was still horrible.

So I filed another complaint. On March 31 BSS sent me the following note:

Everlasting Hollywood Pothole – Filled

For several months there was a rather nasty pothole on Hawthorn Avenue,  just west of N. Orange Drive in Hollywood. It was in the middle of the street so I don’t imagine that very many cars would hit it — but still. We’d complained several times and, after the recent Atmospheric River rains of early 2023, we filed another service request.

So this is what we got back:

Your Pothole – Small Asphalt Repair request was updated on 04/14/2023 3:48 PM.

CORRECTION— ACTUAL ADDRESS IS F/O 7018 W. HAWTHORN. REPAIR W/HOT A/C OR COLD PATCH

Well, guess what. It wasn’t repaired. So I emailed everyone I could at BSS on April 15:

Hello:

I don’t know what’s going on over there at BSS but this pothole has NOT been filled. And the actual address is, indeed, 7000 Hawthorn, just west of N. Orange, in the middle of the street. I just drove by the pothole again, stopped my car, and double-checked the address on the apartment building on the South side of Hawthorn. IT US 7000 Hawthorn. You filled a pothole somewhere else!

I even sent you a picture of the pothole. It also is pretty obvious from the second photo EXACTLY where the pothole is!

This is the third time I’ve contacted you folks about this pothole.

Later that day it was filled.
